COVID-19 Impact: They area is now closed to vehicles. There now is a CLOSURE of the San Joaquin River Gorge Recreation Area due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) closed use of its developed recreation area sites in California and to motor vehicles, while leaving only trails open. For the Gorge, the trails are several miles from the where the closed gate on the road is, so only those familiar probably will be the ones using them.
